Chapter 12 of the Australian Dangerous Goods Code, 2020 sets out the requirements for safety equipment for every road vehicle, including trucks.
Broadly speaking the requirement for a fire extinguisher for a truck are as follows;
- trucks carrying all types of dangerous goods; or
- trucks carrying non-flammable goods packed pressure drums, tubes, multiple element gas containers (MEGC's), tanks, bulk containers (solids); or
- trucks carrying flammable goods packed in pressure drums, tubes, multiple element gas containers (MEGC's), tanks, bulk containers (solids) or intermediate bulk containers (IBC's) containing more than 10,000 litres total capacity or containing > 10,000 kg in total.
