Required Exit

A required exit is not specifically defined in the National Construction Code ("NCC") but is referenced throughout the document. In general terms, a required exit may be defined as any exit from a building that is required to for the access or egress (discharge) of the occupants of a building in the event of an emergency.  There are many requirements for the construction of a required exit as well as the path of travel to a required exit covered in the NCC.
