Authority Having Jurisdiction ("AHJ")

An authority having jurisdiction ("AHJ") means a Minister of the Crown, government department, agency, authority, organisation, office or individual that has the authority and is responsible for enforcing the requirements of Legislation, an Order, Code or Standard. An AHJ may also be responsible for enforcing an instruction or approving, an item of equipment, assembly, materials, installation, method or a procedure.

In construction, the AHJ is responsible for ensuring that all construction projects comply with applicable legislation, Codes, Standards and approvals.
