Specific Gravity

Specific Gravity

Specific gravity is the ratio of the density of a solution (for batteries the electrolyte) to the density of a given reference (normally deionized water).

By measuring the specific gravity of the electrolyte it is relatively simple to determine the start of charge of a flooded (wet) cell battery.
