- Safety Data Sheet ("SDS")
A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is a document that provides critical health and safety information about products, substances or chemicals that are classified as hazardous substances or dangerous goods. If you buy one of these products, it should be supplied with an Safety Data Sheet. A Safety Data Sheet will provide information including; (1) the products, substance or chemicals identity (name) and ingredients; (2) how it may affect health, safety and physical hazards; (3) safe handling and storage procedures; (4) emergency procedures; and (5) disposal considerations.
Information contained within a Safety Data Sheet
Information contained within a Safety Data Sheet must be set out using the following section headings in accordance with the Code of Practice for the Preparation of Safety Data Sheets for Hazardous Chemicals
- Section 1—Identification: product identifier and chemical identity
- Section 2—Hazard(s) identification
- Section 3—Composition and information on ingredients
- Section 4—First aid measures
- Section 5—Firefighting measures
- Section 6—Accidental release measures
- Section 7—Handling and storage, including how the chemical may be safely used
- Section 8—Exposure controls and personal protection
- Section 9—Physical and chemical properties
- Section 10—Stability and reactivity
- Section 11—Toxicological information
- Section 12—Ecological information
- Section 13—Disposal considerations
- Section 14—Transport information
- Section 15—Regulatory information
- Section 16—Any other relevant information.
