A false alarm, also referred to as an unwanted alarm or more accurately as a nuisance alarm occurs when a fire detection system is activated in the absence of an actual fire or combustion byproducts. These alarms are commonly triggered by deceptive phenomena such as cooking fumes, steam, aerosols, dust, or insects.
