An automatic fire sprinkler system and fire hydrant systems require a functional test of the water supply on a yearly basis. Where this system is combined, it stands to reason both water supply proving tests should be conducted.
The purpose of a water supply proving test is to compare the actual water supply perfomance (water supply flow rate and pressure) against the required performance (duty) as set out in the approved design.
In most cases, the required performnace (duty) is detailed on the block plan for the automatic fire sprinkler system or fire hydrant system.
Prior to undertaking a water supply proving test, it is important to verify the accuracy of the water supply pressure gauges against a calibrated gauge.
