Short-Term Rental Accommodation ("STRA")

Short-Term Rental Accommodation ("STRA")

The phrase short-term rental accommodation ("STRA") is defined in the New South Wales "State Environmental Planning Policy (Affordable Rental Housing) Amendment (Short-term Rental Accommodation) 2021" under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act (NSW) 1979 means a dwelling used by the host to provide accomodation in the dwelling on a commercial basis for a temporary or short-term period. The most common form of short-term rental accommodation are properties that are made available via online platforms such as Airbnb, Booking.com and Stayz.

There exists specific legislation in some jurisdictions in Australia that provide for specific obligations for fire safety in dwellings used for short-term rental accommodation purposes.
