- Service Penetration
A service penetration is an aperture, opening, or gap that can be open or closed, made through a fire-resisting element in a building to allow for the passage of services. These services might include plumbing, electrical, gas, or telecommunication pipes, wires, and cable trays. Service penetrations are necessary for the functionality and convenience of modern buildings, but if not properly installed and sealed, they can create weak points that allow fire and smoke to spread through the building.
