Service Life

In Australian Standard AS 1851 – Routine servicing of fire protection systems and equipment , the term service life refers to the designated period during which specific equipment or systems must undergo defined inspections, testing, surveys, maintenance or replacement. This includes components like filters, smoke alarms, detectors, detection devices, batteries, pyrotechnic actuators, aerosol generators, fusible links, foam concentrate, and other items as specified by the manufacturer in operation and maintenance manuals.

Australian Standard AS 2304:2011 – Water storage tanks for fire protection systems defines service life as the period of time that the water storage tank is expected to perform as originally designed and installed with planned rectification and maintenance at the appropriate intervals.
