Rapid Acoustics Speech Transmission Index ("RASTI")

Rapid Acoustics Speech Transmission Index ("RASTI")

The Rapid Acoustics Speech Transmission Index (RASTI) is a simplified method for measuring speech intelligibility in acoustic environments.

The Rapid Acoustics Speech Transmission Index is derived from the Speech Transmission Index (STI) and focuses on the effects of reverberation and noise on speech clarity.

RASTI uses two octave-band noise carriers and a limited set of modulation frequencies to provide a quick and efficient assessment of intelligibility, making it suitable for environments where detailed STI measurements may be unnecessary.

RASTI is particularly useful for evaluating public address and emergency communication systems.

While less detailed than STI, it offers a practical balance between accuracy and speed, enabling assessments in real-world scenarios. Its efficiency makes it ideal for testing in locations and ensuring effective communication during normal and emergency conditions.
