Emergency Intercom System ("EIS")

An Emergency Intercom System or Emergency Intercommunication System is a life safety device that is installed in a building to manage the evacuation process of the occupants of a building or structure1. This is achieved by providing a means of communication between the chief warden and the floor or area wardens2.

An Emergency Intercom System may be integrated and also form part of the Emergency Warning System. In this case the combined system is refered to as an Emergency Warning and Intercom System (EWIS).
