  1. AS 1851 Deferred in NSW to February 13, 2026

    The Building Commission, New South Wales issued a Fact Sheet on Jan 19, 2025 clarifying amendments to the Environmental Planning and Assessment (Development Certification and Fire Safety) Amendment Regulation 2025. The Fact Sheet covered three primary amendments; (1) Deferal of mandatory compliance with AS 1851 & defer requirements that a fire safety certificate can only be issued if an assessment has been done by an accredited practitioner; (2) Changes a Fire Safety Schedule resulting from compliance action taken by Building Commission NSW; and (3) housekeeping amendments.

  2. Smoke alarms mandatory for NSW homes!

    New South Wales Fire Brigades estimates that 59 per cent of deaths from house fires occur during sleeping hours and 670,000 homes across the State do not have smoke alarms, leaving occupants at great risk. In the last five years, 144 house fire deaths occurred across NSW.
